Richard Barham Middleton, born on October 28, 1882, in Staines, Middlesex, pursued an unconventional lifestyle while working as a clerk at the Royal Exchange Assurance Corporation in London. Embracing the bohemian spirit, he became involved with the New Bohemians club and fostered literary connections, eventually becoming an editor at Vanity Fair. Known primarily for his haunting short ghost stories, Middleton's work gained recognition when fellow editor Frank Harris published his poem "The Bathing Boy." He passed away at the young age of 29 on December 1, 1911.
