Mary Edwards Walker (1832-1919) was a trailblazing female physician and advocate for women's rights, born on a farm in Oswego, New York. She passionately supported women's suffrage and challenged traditional marriage vows, while dedicating her skills as a physician during the Civil War, despite resistance from military leaders. Captured by Confederate forces, she spent four months in prison caring for fellow prisoners and, in 1865, made history as the only woman to receive the Medal of Honor for her valor.
