Eminent Victorians

In "Eminent Victorians," Lytton Strachey offers a compelling critique of high Victorianism through incisive biographies of four prominent figures: Cardinal Manning, Florence Nightingale, Thomas Arnold, and General Charles George Gordon. With a blend of psychological insight and sharp wit, Strachey unravels the myths surrounding these individuals, revealing the underlying chauvinism and hypocrisy of the era. This work not only marks a departure from traditional biographical forms but also introduces a new, irreverent tone in literature.
