"The Story of the Siren" by E.M. Forster, a short story from his 1928 collection, uses rich metaphor and symbolism to explore themes of prophecy and societal expectations. It follows a couple who have seen a siren and are destined to reveal her to save the world, only to face opposition from a priest with dark intentions. This thought-provoking tale is a compelling example of Forster's skill in blending surreal fiction with profound themes.
