On their birthday, the narrator receives an expensive gift from their best friend, who is clearly excited about it. However, the gift is related to skydiving, which presents a challenge because the narrator is afraid of heights. The story hints at upcoming events that may bring both good and bad news, creating anticipation without revealing what those are.
