Racist by Design

Racist by Design, by award-winning historian Kelly Lytle Hernández, explores the historical development of the American immigration system, revealing how it was intentionally built to favor white immigrants while marginalizing nonwhite groups. Tracing key events from the Haitian Revolution to the Chinese Exclusion Act, the book examines how racist policies were embedded into laws and reinforced through judicial and social systems. Hernández offers a critical analysis of the legacy of these policies and calls for their dismantling, making this a provocative and essential read on America's racial and immigration history.
